Rivne Oblast

Rivne Regional Military Administration is one of the associated partners of the Network of the Three Seas Regions.

Rivne region as an administrative-territorial unit within Ukraine was formed on December 4, 1939. The region is located in the north-west of Ukraine within the Western Polissia region, covers the eastern parts of Volyn Polyssia, Volyn Highlands and Small Polyssia and the western outskirts of Central (Zhytomyr) Polyssia. It borders the Volyn, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, and Lviv regions and the Republic of Belarus.

According to the nature of the relief, it is divided into two parts: the northern part within the boundaries of the Poliska lowland and the southern, elevated one, occupying the northern edge of the Volyn-Podilskyi upland.

The region has a favorable territorial and geographical location with significant transit potential. The state border with Belarus with a length of 234 kilometers runs through the territory of the region. There are five international checkpoints in the region.

The leading place in the region’s economy is occupied by industry and agriculture .

There are 893 enterprises (including small enterprises) that produce industrial products in the industrial complex of the region.

The leading industries of the region are electricity production and supply; chemical industry; production of building materials and glass products; food industry; manufacture of wood products; engineering; furniture production; textile and mining industry

The share of the Rivne region in the total volume of industrial products sold in Ukraine is 1.5 percent.

The industry of the region specializes mainly in the production of electricity, mineral fertilizers, glass products, furniture, chipboards, plywood, cement, building materials, electrical engineering products, non-woven materials, and food products.

There are three power plants operating in the region: VP “Rivnenska NPP”, two mini-hydroelectric power stations in the town of Mlyniv and the village of Hrinniki

The main areas of agricultural development are the cultivation of grain and leguminous crops, industrial crops (sugar beet, rapeseed, sunflower), potatoes, vegetables, and the production of livestock products (meat, milk, eggs).

In the structure of the gross production of agriculture (for all categories of farms), the livestock sector accounts for 31.5 percent, crop production for 68.5 percent.

The total area of agricultural land is 929.7 thousand hectares, including arable land – 658 thousand hectares (70.8 percent).
